Who is Kristy Moore

Kristy Moore, a mother and a lifelong advocate for public education with more than 20 years of experience as a teacher, mentor, organizer, and statewide education leader. She currently serves as the Program Manager of National Programs, where she plans large-scale events, builds partnerships, and advances work that supports young children and families nationwide.

Kristy worked in Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools as Coordinator of Staffing and spent over a decade in Durham Public Schools as a teacher and mentor for new educators. Her work has helped strengthen teacher support systems, improve retention, and ensure beginning teachers have the tools and guidance they need to succeed.

Kristy has also held major leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels. She served as Vice President of the North Carolina Association of Educators, President of the Durham Association of Educators, and a board member for multiple organizations dedicated to children, equity, and public schools.

Her commitment to service has earned her numerous recognitions, including a Governor’s appointment to the D.R.I.V.E. Task Force and the State Census Committee, as well as awards for community leadership and mentorship.

Rooted in Durham and dedicated to ensuring every child and educator feels safe, supported, and seen, Kristy is running to bring experienced and solutions-focused leadership to the Durham Public School Board.
